Word Choice Matters

Hilarious! And seeing the word "literally" on this list relieves a bit of the pressure building inside of me, ready to blow my very face off, each time I hear someone (stereotypes shall remain nameless) say, for example: "My friends surprised me on my birthday and I LITERALLY had no idea."

Huh. As opposed to METAPHORICALLY having some kind of idea? Or EXISTENTIALLY viewing said idea as a mere symptom of a greater cultural context? Who knows. Who cares. Hence the pressure. Hence my face explosion.

And please, please, please don't even get me started on the use of "game changer." Quick anecdote: at the height of Avatar's fame a friend of mine described the movie again and again as a "game changer". Well, this weekend Transformers 3 opens. Last weekend Green Lantern opened. And how many Pirates have there been now?

Avatar was kinda cool, I guess. But the game seems pretty airtight.
